Description :

This impressive blue & floral hand-painted Russian nesting doll set includes nine intricately crafted wooden dolls, with the largest measuring 6.5 inches tall and the smallest just 0.75 inches tall. The Matryoshka is associated with motherhood and fertility.  The first Matryoshka set was created in 1890 by woodcarver Vasily Zvyozdochkin and painter Sergey Malyutin who were inspired by traditional Russian folk art. This classic figurine set remains highly popular today, with many artists continuing to craft beautifully hand-painted designs.  Their signature is located on the bottom.

  • Peasant women in sarafan dresses – The outermost doll traditionally represents a mother figure, symbolizing family and continuity.
  • Floral and geometric patterns – Many designs incorporate bright colors and intricate motifs, reflecting Russian decorative arts.
  • Storytelling themes – This sets depicts an artistic and narrative story of family unity and generational tradition with each doll painted similar to the other.
