Description :

This late 19th to early 20th-century Hampden Watch Co. pocket watch showcases the craftsmanship of a brand known for its precision movements and elegant designs. The gold-toned case (potentially gold-filled?) features a Roman numeral dial, complemented by ornate hands and a subdial for seconds. The screw-off back allows access to the movement, though an appropriate tool is required to reveal the serial number.

The second hand functions when wound, and the hour/minute hands keep time as the second hand cycles.  However, the watch will require servicing to adjust the hands to the proper time of day.  Measuring 3” long x 2” wide, this piece is a fine example of early American watchmaking, ideal for collectors or those seeking restoration opportunity.

Note:  Hampden Watch Company pocket watches were produced between 1877 and 1930. The company originally operated in Springfield, Massachusetts, before moving to Canton, Ohio in 1888 after being acquired by the Dueber Watch Case Company. Hampden was known for its high-quality movements, including the first 16-size, 23-jewel movement made in America. Production ceased in 1930, when the company was sold to Amtorg Trading Corporation, and its machinery was shipped to Soviet Russia, where former Hampden employees helped establish watchmaking operations.  wikipedia
