Description :
The crouching clam digger carries the red Hakata Urasaki foil label. The seated elder and the sake drinker feature a different, highly collectible maker: Hakata Mimasu Doll (indicated by the distinct fan-shaped blue and gold foil labels on their bases). Both workshops operated out of Fukuoka during the post-WWII era, making this a perfect, cohesive mid-century lot. The Clam Digger / Shell Gatherer (Hakata Urasaki): A beautifully expressive elder figure crouching on a sandy base, wearing a traditional tied headscarf (tenugui). They are gathering coastal bounty, holding a woven basket containing a clam shell and a conch or murex shell, with more loose shells modeled onto the base. The Seated Elder / Scholar (Hakata Mimasu): A serene, white-bearded patriarch sitting cross-legged in a traditional pose. He wears a formal layered kimono and a rust-colored vest (haori) tied with a prominent cord (himo). In his right hand, he holds a small, closed scroll or tool handle. The Sake Drinker on Barrel (Hakata Mimasu): A highly characterful figure depicting a man mid-celebration, seated atop a large wooden sake barrel (taru) with bold kanji painted on the front. He holds a traditional square wooden sake measuring cup (masu) painted red, and features a classic "drunkard" expression with a towel draped over his shoulder.
