Description :

East Asian ink painting, a tradition rooted in Chinese literati art and later adopted across Japan and Korea. The style emphasizes expressive brushwork, tonal variation, and philosophical depth rather than realism, monochrome landscapes and delicate botanical subjects. They appear to possibly be done on fabric panels (see closeup detail in last photo). The inscriptions are not mere signatures; they often include poems or reflections that complement the imagery, merging painting and literature into one art form. These appear to be 20th‑century decorative or studio works, likely mid‑century to late‑century but actual age is not confirmed.

Large Vertical Landscape (16" × 34"): A classic scholar’s mountain scene — three robed figures beneath a towering cliff and pine tree, rendered in expressive monochrome washes. The composition evokes contemplation and harmony with nature, hallmarks of literati painting.

Three Smaller Works (15" × 12" each):

  • Branch with Butterflies: Gentle color accents and calligraphy balance the delicate movement of insects around a flowering branch.

  • Orchid Study: Minimalist ink strokes capture the grace of wild orchids — a motif symbolizing purity and scholarly virtue.

  • Swallows and Willow: Two birds in flight among drooping branches, a lyrical depiction of spring vitality and freedom.
